Payment of Psychology and Counselling Fees

Full payment is required for each individual session at the time of the appointment. You may then submit the invoice for a rebate from Medicare or from your Private Health Insurance, if applicable.

You will not be able to claim a rebate from both Medicare and your Private Health Fund for your counselling fees.

Medicare Rebates

If you have a referral from a Doctor or Psychiatrist and they have done a GP Mental Health Care Plan with you (which takes approximately 15 minutes), you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of up to $78.40 per session. This amount is current rebate as of 1 July 2009, subject to change, please check with administration staff when you make your appointment.

The Medicare referral system allows you up to 12 sessions per year, on the condition you go back to your referring GP after 6 sessions for a review.

Your GP will determine whether you need further help and will refer you for a further 6 sessions, if required.

GST on Services

To be exempt from GST the purpose of the counselling sessions must be to fulfill the Australian Taxation Office definition of "being necessary for the medical treatment of the patient".

Variation of Fees

Fees may vary from time to time from those listed above. We will explain any variation to you.

Direct Billing

We have arrangements with most third party insurers to bill them directly. In order to do this we must have approval from the organisation first. Please discuss this at the time of making your appointment.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that a cancellation policy applies to all appointments.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will attract a flat consultation fee of $95.00.  This minimum fee is necessary because with less than 24 hours cancellation notice, it is highly unlikely that we will be able to fill your vacant time with an alternative client into that space.
