Wellness In the Wilderness and Self Belief
Are you ready to better connect to your deepest goals and dreams ?
Perseverance, Self Belief & Creating the Right Rituals are the keys to stepping fully into your potential. We have created an amazing one day experience – called Wellness in the Wilderness - for people who are seeking to expand upon their mental and physical capacity. In the following article we share a personal example of how a mindset shift to step slightly out of his comfort zone in the area of health & wellness, resulted in transformational benefits to one of our Wellness in the Wilderness facilitators, Psychologist Peter Doyle.
Peter explains a small part of his life changing journey as follows :
“An individual gains significant personal power and deep insights associated with the unwavering commitment to “ finish what you start” in any worthwhile endeavour. My endeavour a few years ago was to regain my zest for life and reduce my weight from 108kg to 78kg.
This commitment, in my case, became as concrete as hitting the water at 6.50am in the middle of summer on a Sunday morning and swimming hard for 1500 metres, then running to a transition spot and sprinting onto my bike for a 40km burst down and up the motor way.
As a novice competitor my times were slow and by the end of the bike leg of the race, for me it is already 9.00am, the sun is belting down at 35 degrees Celsius and I have 10 kilometers to still run hard along the bitumen, but my legs are severely cramping, quad muscles shot to bits with no glycogen stores left and I have reached this point of physical overload with only a meagre 1 kilometer chiselled off the now very daunting 10 kilometer target to finish this event……
So I drew on the depth of mental discipline developed through regular practice of the four building block rituals (physical, intellectual, emotional and inspirational) and hobble and shuffle in deep short term pain, but enduring self belief and joy of pure determination for the next 9 kilometers to run across that finish line and complete what I had started……..in the true reality of clear hindsight – not three and a half hours earlier that morning but in fact 15 months earlier when I concluded that I was “sick to death” of my own limiting beliefs and excuses and bad habits that had held back my health, wellness and vitality fuelled joy of life for so long – So despite the brief physical pain of finishing this endurance event, as I ran across that line, I truly understood through my lived experience over the past 15 months of staying committed to finishing what I had started; that at the physical, emotional, intellectual and physical levels, when in pursuit of any manner of worthwhile endeavour in a person’s life ……when you do the work and develop the appropriate rituals with the guidance of a talented and committed team, combining nutrition, life coaching, & motivational psychology ) you will get the results.
