Authentic Leadership & Workplace Group Identity
Our previous blog highlighted the key principle that an authentic leader must embody the ability and desire to nurture the human spirit of each person they seek to positively influence.
This does not mean that a leader becomes negligent around the profit and service delivery aspects of the workplace. On the contrary, authentic leadership from the heart is precisely what creates prosperity, abundance and peace of mind for the various companions (staff, customers, suppliers, advisers, shareholders, family members, etc.) on our leadership journey together.
Participating as an expert in a panel discussion at the recent Psychology & Excellence at Work Conference, Guidelight Psychology founder, Peter Doyle was refreshed by the wise leadership coaching perspectives articulated by a number of colleagues on that day. In particular effective leaders need to be seen as “one of us” by the companions they desire to influence. Leaders need to live and breathe the inclusive concept of “We”, rather than “I” – “Us” united is far more powerful than just “Me”!
In 2014 we launched the Creating Healthier Workplaces program so that we can be of service in partnering with interested workplaces to empower the workplace group identity and performance of people in their organisations. The program is theoretically robust based on the performance pyramid validated by Harvard university research.
Equally important it is authentic in showing people daily concrete ways to embody key behaviour and principles that inspire the human spirit – a brilliant outcome for the good of everyone!
