Uni Survival Guide

Uni exams got you feeling wound up and stressed out? We totally get it (trust us… we’ve done those 2am 7/11 Red Bull runs too). We’ve compiled a few of our top tips for keeping your focus in check and your stress levels turned down to just below a gentle simmer.

1. Get Outside and get some Fresh Air

It may sound counterproductive to be walking away from the books but getting a vitamin D hit can work wonders. Studies have confirmed the positive effects of vitamin D and brain function. So get out there and soak up some rays (don’t forget to slip, slop, slap because you know your vegan girlfriend hates lobster).

2. Be the Tortoise not the Hare

Studying a little bit everyday rather than having a massive cram session the night before (even though it’s tempting to do it) keeps your mind continually reviewing the content. It’ll also mean you’re less likely to have a massive brain fluff when you actually sit the exam.

3. Munch on the Right Things

While it’s tempting to grab a bag of lollies or a box of tiny teddies to get you through while you’re studying it’s actually doing you more harm than good (and we’re not just talking about your waistline). Energy spikes and sugar crashes will leave your mind and body feeling fatigued, meaning you’ll be less focused. Grab some Low-GI snacks like almonds or apple slices instead.

4. Treat Yo’self!

Just finished Week 4’s lecture slides? You Go Glen Coco! Shout yourself a chia-latte. Nailed that revision quiz? Get it Girl! Whip out your phone add a 5 minute timer and give yourself some Facebook time … Rewarding yourself can improve your mood and your productivity while you’re studying.

5. Blast those Beats

Studies have shown that listening to music can elevate your mood and decrease your stress levels. If you don’t want to destroy favourite tunes by the memories of those tedious study hours, try checking out some of Spotify’s “Good Vibe” playlists. They’re sure to stick a smile on your face while you re-read those Cliff Notes you stole from the guy two rows in front of you in your lecture last week.

Our final tip is a simple one… be like Frozen and “LET IT GO”. No matter what the final result is – don’t beat yourself up over it. Tomorrow’s always another day.
