Making your goals a reality depends on many factors, but probably the most challenging is developing perseverance.
Goal Setting: Start with Clear Goals
When you invest the time to create concrete, specific and measurable goals, it will give you a laser-like focus on what is important in your life.
With this clarity on where you want to spend the majority of your precious time, you become better able to visualise your ideal future, and step by step begin to turn this into reality.
Once you become clearly focused on your goals, you will find that you are able to make better decisions, and procrastinate far less. Plus typically as you successfully complete one goal, you become inspired to progressively achieve higher level goals.
30 Days to New Habits
Realistic goals, shaped by appropriate psychological coaching, will quickly become regular rituals that enhance your daily life. This is an important process to ultimately rewire some of the neural pathways of the brain and literally learn to see the world differently. Because it usually takes about 30 days on average for these new goal focused rituals and routines to become habits, the additional support of a professional - such as a psychologist - to boost and review your progress over this period, is often a critical ingredient for long term positive change to occur.
Even as you retrain your brain into higher level motivational and inspirational goals, it is normal that some setbacks and relapses into the old negative ways will occur from time to time.
Overcoming Setbacks with Perseverance
These setbacks are not a sign of failure, rather it is indicative of the complexity of old learned behaviour, and the need to persevere over time.
The door to your dreams is always open, so choose to expand the power of your goal setting approach and take action now. A piece of wisdom that has transferred across the ages reminds us that the journey of a thousand miles, starts with a single step.
Indeed, one of the biggest regrets that many of my clients share about not pursuing their goals and full potential, is the realisation that they hesitated to commence because originally it seemed like the end result would take years to achieve. Yet in hindsight they ruefully recognised that this time had still passed anyway - regardless of whether they strove for the goal or did nothing!
